N.A.R.K. Approach to Treatment & Training
In this intensive 2½ day workshop, explore the neurological, biomechanical, and physiological principles that influence pain, movement dysfunction, and physical performance. Develop a deeper understanding of how the nervous system, joints, muscles, and kinetic chains interact to influence movement efficiency, postural control, force production, and overall functional capacity.
The first half-day focuses on understanding pain patterns, performing systematic assessments, and developing individualized treatment protocols using the Neuro Articular Regenerative Kinetics (N.A.R.K.) system. Participants will learn to interpret assessment findings, select appropriate hands-on manual therapy interventions, and establish a framework for reassessment and continued care.
The following two days transition into the personal training application of the N.A.R.K. system, focusing on neuromuscular retraining, corrective movement, progressive loading, and performance development. Participants will learn how to translate assessment findings and manual therapy strategies into purposeful training programs that develop mobility, stability, strength, muscular endurance, and power.
A central focus is bridging the gap between the treatment table and the training floor. This integrated approach emphasizes how hands-on manual therapy, active participation, and progressive exercise can work together to improve functional capacity, build resilience, and support long-term performance. The course also examines the relationship between physical activity, neuromuscular health, and all-cause mortality risk, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strength, balance, and physical capacity throughout the lifespan.
Achievable Goals:
- Recognize and interpret common pain patterns, movement dysfunctions, and neuromuscular compensations to guide assessment and protocol development.
- Perform systematic assessments of joint mobility, muscular function, movement patterns, and neuromuscular coordination.
- Develop individualized treatment protocols using N.A.R.K. principles and appropriate hands-on manual therapy strategies.
- Integrate assessment findings and manual therapy interventions into progressive personal training programs.
- Apply neuromuscular retraining, corrective movement, and progressive loading to improve mobility, stability, strength, and functional performance.
- Understand how strength, balance, aerobic capacity, and physical activity contribute to healthy aging, functional independence, and reduced all-cause mortality risk.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand:
Explore the neurological, biomechanical, and physiological mechanisms involved in pain perception, motor control, joint function, and muscular performance. Examine how the nervous system integrates sensory input and coordinates movement, posture, and force production. - Assess:
Perform systematic assessments of pain patterns, joint mobility, muscular function, movement coordination, and postural control. Identify relevant kinetic chain relationships and establish functional baselines to guide clinical reasoning and intervention strategies. - Interpret:
Recognize relationships between localized symptoms, regional dysfunction, and whole-body compensatory movement patterns. Develop working hypotheses that account for neurological, articular, muscular, and mechanical influences. - Treat:
Apply N.A.R.K.-based manual therapy techniques to address relevant joint, muscular, and neuromuscular restrictions. Develop individualized treatment protocols and understand the importance of reassessment in determining the effectiveness of selected interventions. - Integrate:
Bridge the treatment table and training environment by translating assessment findings and manual therapy strategies into active movement and neuromuscular retraining. Reinforce functional changes through purposeful movement and progressive exercise. - Progress:
Apply progressive loading principles to develop mobility, stability, strength, muscular endurance, and power. Establish appropriate progressions and regressions based on individual capabilities, tolerance, recovery, and performance goals. - Program:
Design comprehensive training programs that incorporate general physical preparedness (GPP), functional movement, strength development, and performance conditioning. Understand how progressive physical training supports long-term health, functional independence, and resilience.
